Classroom Activities March 25-28

Reading
We will be reading The Truth about Bats.  This is the first time we will be jumping out of our reading textbook and reading a chapter book.  This chapter book has a worksheet for each chapter that your child must complete.  Their folders will be going home frequently for homework if they don’t finish in class.  At the end of our unit we will be doing a research project on bats. Please be sure to have your child read 20min every week night and log it on their reading log.  After the book my students will be doing a research project on bats.
 
Math
We are currently working on time.  We will be studying elapsed time as well as quarter and half past to an hour. 
 
Social Studies
Map Skills- Latitude and longitude lines, map keys, cardinal and intermediate directions, map scale.  Map test Thursday this week!

We are currently finishing up our comparing fraction unit.  We will be doing testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.  All CF packets need to be turned in for a grade.

Math
Comparing Fractions unit.  We are now getting into the more advanced part of our fraction unit.  Your child will need to come up with equivalent fractions and be able to prove that they are equal. Less than, greater than to another by drawing a picture or explaining their answer.  The students had a blast with their fraction pizzas!

Classroom Activites March 3-7

Reading
We will be testing on Two Bad Ants on Wednesday.  In language we will be working on synonyms and antonyms.  Later this week will begin our nonfiction story unit, The Truth About Bats.
 
Math
Students will be comparing fractions to see if their less than, greater, than or equal to another.   They will be showing proof of this through plotting them on number lines drawing shapes, and finding equivalent fractions
 
Social Studies
We will be taking a landforms test on Tuesday. Then we will begin our rotation on Wednesday. My class will have Mrs. Staffileno for the next 6 weeks.
 
Welcome new students! In my social studies class we will go over map skills and landforms.
