Classroom Activities April 28-May 2nd

Reading
Students will be reading A Tree is Growing. Your child will be bringing home the story in their reading packet.  Please sign and return the following day.  In English we will be focusing on writing paragraphs, making sure our supportive sentences support out topic sentence.
 
Math
-Measuring Unit
Your student will get acquainted with a ruler as they will be learning to measure items to the nearest ½ and ¼ in.

Students will be reading The Albertosaurus Mystery.  Your child will be bringing home the story in their reading packet.  Please sign and return the following day.  In English we will be covering synonyms and antonyms along with writing a paragraph.

Classroom Activites April 7th-11th

-Early Out April 9th

Spelling Words
  No spelling this week due to SBAC testing. Days that we have spelling we will be practicing our cursive handwriting.
 
Reading
Students will finish up their research paper this week and read it to the class.  We will not have reading Mon.-Thur due to testing
 
Math
We are currently working on time.  We will be studying elapsed time as well as quarter and half past to an hour.  Elapsed time test will be given this week.
 
Social Studies
-Neighborhood maps
 We will be finishing our maps up on Tuesday. After, we will start our landforms unit.

Classroom Activites March 31st- April 4th

Reading
We will be doing our bat research paper.  We will be in the library all week gathering data on the bat of their choice.  Once data is gathered, we will write a paper that describes their bat’s diet, habitat, characteristics, and explain if they are a protected species or not.
 
Math
We are currently working on time.  We will be studying elapsed time as well as quarter and half past to an hour. 
 
Social Studies
-Neighborhood maps
 My students will be constructing a neighborhood map with their group.  They will have to make roads following the cardinal/intermediate directions they have on their compass rose.  They will also construct houses and other buildings to put in their neighborhood.   Students will also be required to measure distance between objects to come up with its actual distance via a map scale.
